This blog is a chronicle of my journey as a single mother attempting to get her PhD in biology at a midwestern university. I am passionate about being a mom, education, science, and various hobbies so this blog will have a smattering of all of them. In 2016, I am going to attempt to post every week (unless I'm on vacation) for a total of #50posts. Some of my ongoing themes are:
How it Works - looking at methods I have used through my years in
science for a more in-depth of how they work. Inspired by one of Boo's
favorite shows "How It's Made"
Best Biochemist - a professor of mine calls plants the best biochemist as they are capable of making a great deal of compounds. This tag explores all of the various compounds plants can create.
Species Spotlight - the plant kingdom is very diverse, each species spotlight highlights a species I think is cool and why.
In the News - news-style reports on current research in plant sciences journal articles that I think are interesting.
DFPM - Dear Future Professor Me is a series of letters from the grad
student perspective to the faculty member she hopes to become later in
life.
NaNo - short for NaNoWriMo which is National Novel Writing Month
which I participate in yearly. These posts will either be about NaNo or
about novel writing.
Citizen Science - highlights places anyone can get involved in scientific experiments.
Some older tags I used when I was trying to post 3 times a week:
Molecular Monday - As my research is heavily based in molecular biology, this is the day that I will be posting science and school related things.
Wacky Wednesday - This is my grab bag day, anything that I feel like writing about could show up.
Family Friday - This is the day I focus on the Mommy aspect of my life.
I hope you enjoy this blog and if you have any questions or comments please drop me a line! If there is anything you can think of that would improve the blog please let me know!
